Tank 500 Hi4-Z Plug-in Hybrid: Expected Launch, Features, and Competitors

The Tank 500 Hi4-Z is expected to be officially launched on January 1, 2025. The vehicle is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0T engine and dual motors, offering a pure electric range of 201 km under WLTC conditions. On December 3, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z announced the start of pre-sales.

Currently, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z is available at some dealerships with physical vehicles in stock. The exterior design of the vehicle is largely consistent with the Tank 500 Hi4-T, featuring a large chrome front grille and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The available body colors are Mocha Black, Pamir Silver, Everest White, and Kunlun Gold.

In terms of dimensions, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z measures 5078 mm in length, 1934 mm in width, and 1905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2850 mm, identical to the Tank 500 Hi4-T. The vehicle has a minimum ground clearance of 210 mm, with approach and departure angles of 29 degrees and 24 degrees, respectively. Additionally, the curb weight of the Tank 500 Hi4-Z is 2980 kg, compared to 2830 kg for the Tank 500 Hi4-T.

Inside, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z features a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central display. The overall design is similar to that of the Tank 500 Hi4-T. The vehicle offers a 5-seat layout, with front seats featuring ventilation, heating, memory, and electric adjustment functions. The second-row seats support heating, ventilation, adjustable backrest angles, and a 40:60 split-folding function. Both the front passenger seat and second-row seats can optionally be equipped with a massage function.

In terms of features, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z offers wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a 12-speaker sound system, an integrated dashcam, memory and heated steering wheel, three-zone automatic air conditioning, a panoramic sunroof, full-speed adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree panoramic camera, side blind-spot monitoring, transparent chassis, automatic parking, and more.

Powertrain-wise, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z is equipped with a power system consisting of a 2.0T engine and dual electric motors, paired with a 3-speed DHT+ continuously variable transmission. The 2.0T engine produces a maximum power output of 185 kW and peak torque of 380 Nm. The electric motors have maximum power outputs of 215 kW and 240 kW, respectively. The system offers a combined power output of 635 kW and a combined torque of 1195 Nm.

The Tank 500 Hi4-Z is built on an 800V architecture and is paired with a 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. Under WLTC conditions, the pure electric range is 201 km, while the combined range is 1096 km. The vehicle supports fast charging up to 163 kW, with a charging time of 0.25 hours (30%-80%) and a slow charging time of 7.5 hours. It also supports external discharging, with a maximum output power of 6 kW.

According to previous reports, the Tank brand has stated that the Hi4-Z architecture is suitable for a wide range of off-road scenarios, offering a longer pure electric range. In terms of sales, the Tank 500 Hi4-T sold 4790 units in November, ranking 3rd in the PHEV mid-to-large SUV segment. As for competition, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z is expected to compete with the Equation Leopard 8, another plug-in hybrid mid-to-large SUV.
